Ying Long

A winged Chinese dragon whose name translates as Responding Dragon. Images of this dragon show it with only two legs and a long fish-like tail.

It was Ying Long who helped Huang Di, the Yellow Emperor, defeat the rebel Chi You. Because the dragon killed people, it was not allowed to go back to heaven. It was forced to stay on earth and live at the South Pole. A Rebel's Defeat

Ying Long also played an important role in controlling the great flood caused by heaven to punish the people of China for misbehaving. While Emperor Yü built dams out of magic clay that absorbed all the water, Ying Long redrew the river beds with his tail.
