Huang Di

Huang Di was the legendary first emperor of China who is said to have lived more than 4000 years ago. In a battle to unite the tribes of ancient China, Emperor Huang Di defeated a rebel with the help of a dragon known as Ying Long. A Rebel's Defeat

After this battle, Huang Di made an offering to the gods on a mountain top. A dazzling dragon covered with golden scales descended from the sky. Huang Di knew the dragon had come to take him to heaven so he climbed on the creature’s back.

His ministers didn’t want to be left behind and all tried to climb on as well. Seventy people clambered onto the dragon’s back. Those that couldn’t, hung onto the dragon’s whiskers. Their weight was too much and they pulled the whiskers out. They watched and wailed as their master flew up to heaven.
