Yesterday I received a rattlesnake in the post! Regular visitors might remember that last year Dragonkeeper (of more correctly Huterin des Drachen) won the German children’s choice award called the Kalbacher Klapperschlange. And those with excellent memories might recall that Klapperschlange means rattlesnake.
Book awards come in all shapes and sizes—plaques, medals, glass sculptures—but this one is in the shape of a rattlesnake. I also got a certificate and the comments made by the children who judged the award (translated into English). Here is my Klapperschlange making friends with one of my dragons.

I have just changed my computer and my email program. It was very traumatic! I am worried that I might have lost some emails in the process. If you have emailed me or left a post on this blog, and I haven’t responded, let me know.

Another whirlwind trip, this time to Adelaide. The Dragon Moon event at Dymocks Rundle Mall went well. Thanks to Marion and the staff for organising it.

Here I am with Marion of Dymocks and with a reader.
I visited three schools—St Peters Woodlands, Pedare College and Seaview High. I also found the time to look up some dragon stuff at the State Library of SA (that’s the beautiful sandstone building below).

I liked the piggies statue in Rundle Mall as well.

I visited eight schools while I was in Sydney—Mount St Benedicts, Cheltenham Girls, Pymble Ladies College, Abbotsleigh Girls, Chatswood PS, Roseville College, Our Lady of Dolours and Lindfield PS. I met lots of kids who had read the first Dragonkeeper books, and lots who I hope I encouraged to give them a try. The students at all the schools asked lots of terrific questions. I think the best question was, “If you could only write one book what would it be?” I signed so many books, the ink in my special purple pen ran out!

This was my welcoming committee at Our Lady of Dolours. I’d like to thank all the schools for making me so welcome, and the booksellers (Paul from The Children’s Bookshop, Ruth from Books and Beyond and Nicola from Lindfield Books) for looking after me so well.
I had a bit of free time in the afternoons to go for walks around Lavender Bay where I was staying, discovering tiny beaches, crumbling jetties and secret gardens. I also walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This was the fabulous view from my hotel.

I am back home after a hectic visit to Sydney where I gave 11 talks in four days!
There was an evening event at the Beecroft Children’s Bookshop which was a full house with kids and adults attending. Owner Paul Macdonald and his staff had created a lovely Dragon Moon window display and local people had contributed items for the display.

This is Rosie who was lucky enough to win the dragon door-prize.
I found a dragon while I was wandering around Beecroft!
Here it is.
